Can Arsenal be relegated?
Never doubt it.
Some say that ‘We are The Arsenal, we have been ever present in the top division since joining.’ True, we shouldn’t be in this situation, a club of our stature.
But football at its core is truly unpredictable, and you can never rest easy.
The example of Leicester City winning the title is being used to highlight what is possible.
And rightly so. The Foxes evaded relegation thanks to the heroics of Nigel Pearson. So to then go on and win the title? It was more than a fairytale. It was unheard of.
So The Arsenal being sucked into a relegation dogfight isn’t impossible.
Would our players be equipped to deal with that pressure? Would they have the extra in the tank to shed blood, sweat and the tears necessary to keep this club in the top flight?
From our form since October, the answer is something we don’t want to hear right now.
We are well aware that behind the scenes, Arteta is battling to sort the mess that the club is in. And the ‘process’ he is attempting, we know it will take time. But the first buds of recovery – will they start to flower before it is too late.
Now THAT, is the question we need an answer to.
The amount of fixtures we have, Arteta needs this to happen before December ends. If not, the League table will be far worse. One win in eight is bad now, but one in eleven, twelve?
We’ll be in the relegation zone by then.
Arteta is limping toward the January transfer window. We need reinforcements and more importantly to ship out the deadwood to make room for the new arrivals. Midfield, creativity, we are screwed without new blood.
Trouble is, we might not get there with Arteta at the helm.
Results are the currency we are in dire need of – and time is ticking.
